Attendance Policy Action Plan

2016-2017

           At Hamburg Middle School we believe that all students are capable of learning and achieving high standards of education.  Therefore, students need to be at school to receive instruction and participate in activities that cultivate learning. The following information is the HMS 2016-2017 attendance policy action plan.

***The number of absences addressed in this document are per semester.***

          Unexcused Absences: If a student accumulates 2 unexcused days of school, the parent or guardian will be contacted. If a student misses 3 unexcused days, the parent/guardian will be required to attend a meeting with the administration, counselor, and FINS officer. If the parent/guardian does not attend that meeting, further action will be taken. If the student misses 4 unexcused days of school, further action will be taken.

2 unexcused- phone call/ 3 unexcused- meeting/ 4 unexcused- further action will be taken if needed

          Excused Absences: Excused absences require a note to be sent to the school explaining why the student missed. This note must arrive at the school no more than 5 school days after the missed day. Please be aware that excused absences due to extended sickness or outstanding circumstances will NOT fall into this plan. Ex) the student has the flu and soon after there is a death in the family, that will not qualify for this action plan. . It is extremely important for parents/guardians to get the excused notes to the school. Excuses are documentation for your student’s absences. Excuses will be filed in the students’ records. Cases of exception will be at the discretion of the administration.

         If a student accumulates 3 excused absences, the parent or guardian will be contacted. If a student misses 5 or more days of school with excused absences, a required meeting will be held with parent/guardian, principal, counselor, and FINS officer. An intervention plan will be implemented if necessary.
